Resumen : La riqueza, composición y distribución de las especies constituyen la información básica para entender la estructura de las comunidades (Gotelli y Colwell, 2001: Jimenez-Valverde y Hortal, 2003; Gotelli y Colwell, 2011) y representan una herramienta fundamental para el diseño de estrategias de manejo y conservación (Dino y Raven, 1994; Palomera-Garcia et al., 2007). En México uno de los grupos mejor conocidos son los vertebrados terrestres: mamíferos, aves, anfibios y reptiles (Llorente-Bousquets y Ocegueda,2008). No obstante, este conocimiento es desigual a lo largo del país, donde algunas regiones no cuentan con inventarios completos de su biodiversidad (Flores y Gerez, 1994). Este es el caso del occidente del país, una región que a pesar de ser reconocida como uno de los principales centros de endemismo en aves (Peterson y Navarro, 2000), cuenta con pocos estudios enfocados en comprender los patrones de riqueza y distribución de estas especies (Garcia-Trejo y Navarro, 2004).
Descripción : The richness, composition and distribution of the species constitute the basic information to understand the structure of the communities (Gotelli and Colwell, 2001: Jimenez-Valverde and Hortal, 2003, Gotelli and Colwell, 2011) and represent a fundamental tool for the design of management and conservation strategies (Dino and Raven, 1994, Palomera-Garcia et al., 2007). In Mexico, one of the best-known groups are terrestrial vertebrates: mammals, birds, amphibians and reptiles (Llorente-Bousquets and Ocegueda, 2008). However, this knowledge is uneven throughout the country, where some regions do not have complete inventories of their biodiversity (Flores and Gerez, 1994). This is the case of the western part of the country, a region that despite being recognized as one of the main centers of bird endemism (Peterson and Navarro, 2000), has few studies focused on understanding the richness and distribution patterns of these species (Garcia-Trejo and Navarro, 2004).
