Resumen : La mordida abierta corresponde a la ausencia de contacto de los dientes de los sectores anteriores de los maxilares con sus antagonistas. Provocando frecuentemente alteraciones estéticas y funcionales en la masticación, fonación y deglución. La deglución atípica es un mal hábito, producto de muchos factores los cuales desencadenan un sin número de alteraciones a nivel bucal. La mordida abierta puede deberse a diferentes factores etiológicos y para obtener un buen resultado en su tratamiento es necesario realizar un buen diagnóstico. Se presenta un caso clínico donde actúa dicho factor etiológico en el cual se logró un resultado satisfactorio en el tratamiento ortodóncico.
Descripción : The anterior open bite refers to the absence of contact between the teeth of the anterior sectors of maxillas with its antagonist. Frequently bringing aesthetic and functional alterations in chewing, phonation and swallowing. Open bite can be due to different etiologic factors and it is necessary to make a right diagnosis in order to obtain a good result in treatment. The atypical swallowing is a bad habit, produced by many factors which trigger alterations at buccal site. A clinical case is presented where this etiologic factor acts. A satisfactory result in the orthodontic treatment was obtained.
